Flight prices by country

# Do flight prices change by country?

## The short answer

Mostly not by much. In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 test, 3 routes searched from 10 countries on Skyscanner and Kayak, the biggest saving against a UK search was $9, and most other countries showed a slightly higher price. Experte searched 4 routes from Germany, the US, Portugal and Japan and saw identical prices every time. A different country can still change a currency or a fare on some routes, so check yours: with ZoneBlade, give each tab its own country and search the same flight in each.

## How to do it

1. 1 Add ZoneBlade and switch to Each tab Install it in Chrome or Edge, open it, and choose Each tab. It’s free and needs no account.
2. 2 Give one tab another country Keep one tab as it is, on your own connection, and give another tab the country you want to compare: open ZoneBlade on it and press Choose. Free has one country tab at a time, in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the United States, Japan and Australia; Premium any number, in every country.
3. 3 Search the same flight in both, at the same time Use the same route, dates, passengers and cabin in both tabs, and search within a minute of each other. Write down the price and the currency shown, and repeat on another day to see ordinary price drift.

## Test 1: Tom’s Guide, 3 routes, 10 countries (2025)

George Phillips of Tom’s Guide searched 3 return economy flights for one adult on Skyscanner and Kayak, first from the UK without a VPN and then from servers in South Africa, Ghana, Germany, Romania, Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, the UK and the US. Each search was in a new incognito window and prices were in US dollars. The article was last updated on 19 January 2026.

London Heathrow to New York JFK: $532 on Kayak and $529 on Skyscanner from the UK. No other country was cheaper: the highest price was $566 on Kayak from Brazil, and in the writer’s words all but one of the prices shown were more expensive than the UK base.

Madrid to Athens: $308 on Kayak and $305 on Skyscanner from the UK. Romania was $301 on Kayak, a $7 difference; Vietnam was $298 on Skyscanner.

Los Angeles to San Francisco: $155 on Kayak and $158 on Skyscanner from the UK. Germany was $149 on Skyscanner, a $9 difference, the largest saving in the test. His conclusion was that a VPN won’t save a significant amount on flights.

## Test 2: Experte, 4 routes, 4 countries

Experte searched London to New York, Munich to Melbourne, Berlin to Stockholm and Los Angeles to Tokyo on Skyscanner from Germany, the US, Portugal and Japan, clearing cache and cookies after each search, with prices in euros. The prices matched in every country: €372, €1,355, €101 and €394\. Experte’s own words: changing location “had no impact on the flight prices displayed.” It says it couldn’t check every flight, airline or booking site, and that currency could matter. The page shows no date.

## Why small differences appear

Fares move through the day as seats sell, so two searches a minute apart can differ without any country effect. That’s why you should search from your own country as a baseline, as Tom’s Guide did, and compare within a minute.

Some airlines and booking sites also price by where a sale is made, and may show a different currency or language. Whether that changes the total depends on the route, so we don’t claim a saving. We haven’t yet run our own country-tab searches for this page; when we do, they’ll appear here with the date and the screenshots.

## Good to know

- These are other people’s tests from 2025 and earlier. Fares change daily, so a test shows what happened that day on those routes, not what you will see.
- Neither test checked airlines’ own sites, business class or one-way fares.
- Booking may need a card, address or account in the airline’s sales country, and a site’s terms may not allow buying from another country’s store.
- A price shown is not a price you can pay. Compare the total in your own currency, including card fees.

## Questions

Do flight prices change by country?

Slightly, at most, in the independent tests we found. Tom’s Guide’s largest saving against a UK search was $9 across 3 routes and 10 countries, and Experte saw identical prices from 4 countries. Your route may differ, so compare it yourself.

Are flights cheaper from another country?

Not reliably. In the Tom’s Guide test most other countries showed a slightly higher price than the UK. A cheaper price can also just be a fare that changed between searches.

How do I compare flight prices between countries?

Search the same flight within a minute in a tab on your own connection and a tab set to another country, each with its own cookies. ZoneBlade’s Each tab mode does that in Chrome and Edge, free for one country tab at a time.
